MGM Resorts REIT Plans May Lead To Longer-Term Gains

Casino stocks have been some of the worst performers since the beginning of last year. Las Vegas Sands (LVS) has fallen 46% and Wynn Resorts (WYNN) has collapsed 74% from the 2014 highs. And as share prices tumble lower across much of the industry, it is not wise to try and catch a falling knife without fundamental and technical support backing your thesis (and a very patient careful plan).

Wynn Resorts Could Still See Declines Of 15%+ With Macau Headwinds

Macau has been a drag for casino companies recently and is expected to continue so into the start of 2015. Both Nomura Securities and Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS) are anticipating year over year declines in Q3 earnings combined from the casino operators in Macau. In Q2 Wynn Resorts (NASDAQ:WYNN) had $961M of its revenue come from Macau operations, which represents 68% of the business. The remaining $451M in revenue came from the Las Vegas operations. The Las Vegas segment did see a 12.5% increase in revenue, but overall revenues rose 6% from the low single digit gains from Macau.
