It’s time to review several stocks that had unusual options activity over the last week. Although traders can never be sure why these trades take place (and who’s making them), I believe it’s important to be aware of notable options activity as an indicator for directional bias.

TTM Technologies (NASDAQ:TTMI): 5,000 June 2017 $17.50 calls were bought for $0.65. There was follow through on Tuesday and Wednesday with open interest now at 8,151 contracts. On average, 65 calls traded per day prior to this action.

HollyFrontier (HFC)- Mar 20 $40 call open interest went from 1,625 to 4,681 contracts (buying yesterday).
Intel (INTC)- Mar 20 $33.50 call open interest went from 3,823 to 28,567 contracts (buying yesterday).
McDonald’s (MCD)- June $97.50 call open interest went from 9,588 to 17,290 contracts (buying yesterday).
Marvell Technology (MRVL)- Apr 17 $18 call open interest went from 3,042 to 10,549 contracts (buying yesterday).
Nucor (NUE)- Mar 20 $47 call open interest went from 452 to 6,007 contracts (buying yesterday).

BZH- A rollout from 2,775 June $20 puts (credit) into 2,775 July $20 puts (debit). Volume was above the open interest in the July $20 puts. The stock continues to struggle to sustain a move above the 50-day EMA.
ORCL- 12,922 July 25 weekly $39 puts were sold for $0.39 each, against no previous open interest. The stock is so far finding support at the middle Bollinger Band on the weekly chart (also the uptrend line) and the put seller is making a bet the floor is in.
ROC- The Jan. 2015 $60/$80/$90 bull call spread risk reversal was put on 2,000 times for a $1.15 debit. Volume was above the open interest in both options. Rockwood Holdings is set to announce Q2 earnings on Monday, August 4th.

QQQ- 7k Dec. $77 puts were bought for $1.64-$1.65 each, against open interest of 12,086 contracts. Check the open interest in the morning for confirmation of new buying.
UNP- 4,300 Nov. $150 puts were sold for $2.40 each, against open interest of 2582 contracts. He/she thinks shares of Union Pacific will stay above the $150 level through November options expiration.
UUP- Over 16k Nov. $20 puts were bought for $0.02 each, against no previous open interest. The U.S. Dollar Index ETF is on pace for its fifth consecutive decline, currently hovering around a two year low.
AAPL- Shares of Apple are failing at the $490 resistance, down 1.27% today. The call to put ratio in the Oct. 4 Weekly options is 1.73, led by activity in the $485, $490, and $495 calls.
