It’s time to review several stocks that had unusual options activity over the last week. Although traders can never be sure why these trades take place (and who’s making them), I believe it’s important to be aware of notable options activity as an indicator for directional bias.
Here’s a weekly recap of 10 stocks that had unusual options activity and what, if any, significance these trades may have.

Pinnacle Foods (NYSE:PF) – 1,300+ Feb 17 2017 $57.50 calls traded with the majority being bought for $0.55. Last January, Pinnacle acquired the health food company, Boulder Brands, for $975M. The deal has not just contributed to top line results, but is likely to add $0.08-$0.10 per share to FY 2016 earnings.

ETFC- 2,000 Mar. $20 calls were purchased for $0.79 each, against open interest of 343 contracts.
JCP- 10k May $6 puts were bought for $1.37 each, against open interest of 22,724 contracts. Earnings are due out on 2/26.
LBTYA- The July $70/$85/$100 bull call spread risk reversal was put on 3,500 times for a $1.35 debit. Volume was above the open interest in all three options. Earnings are due out on 2/13.
AAPL- Apple shares are up for the sixth consecutive trading session, rising 1.82% today on last night’s $14B buyback update from Tim Cook. The call to put ratio in (AAPL) is currently 1.32.

ETFC- A rollout from 2,642 Apr. $18 calls (credit) into 2,500 July $20 calls (debit). Volume was above the open interest in the July $20 calls.
INFI- 2,000 Feb. $12 puts were sold for $0.60 each, against open interest of 822 contracts. Earnings are due out on 2/4.
NBR- 5k June $19 calls were sold for $0.78 each, against open interest of 126 contracts.
RDN- The May $14/$16/$18 bull call spread risk reversal was put on 10,000 times for a $0.00 debit. Volume was above the open interest in all three options. Earnings are due out on 2/11.

AMZN- Amazon.com is set to announce Q3 earnings after the bell tonight. Analysts are looking for -$0.09 in EPS and revenue of $16.8 billion. Options traders are pricing in a $29.50 move, or 8.95%, in either direction through Friday’s close. The call to put ratio in the (AMZN) options is 1.08.
PG- In the morning, Proctor & Gamble will release Q3 results before the bell. Analysts are looking for $1.06 in EPS and revenue of $21.1 billion. The options market is implying a $2.18 move, or 2.70%, in either direction Friday’s close. Put to call ratio in (PG) options is currently 1.73.
ETFC- 3,700 Jan. 2014 $17 calls were purchased for $0.76 each, against open interest of 7,367 contracts. E*Trade reported Q3 earnings last night, missing EPS estimates by $0.01.
